Kythryne's Interview Page

So my buddy Kythryne over at www.kythryne.swiftweb.com gave me some interview questions as a meme. And boy, is she tough!

1. What is the most difficult (define "difficult" however you like) piece of art you ever made?

Well, the piece of art that was the most difficult TO me was the pendant that I was wrassling when I popped my thumbnail off backward.... but the most difficult art for me is the stuff that has to be done in stages. I've had necklaces and decoupage projects that simply would not speak to me and let me know how they wanted to turn out...and in the meantime, they sat and gathered dust, and I felt guilty every time I looked at them.

In terms of technical difficulty, some of the more difficult pieces of art were actually sewing, before I gave up sewing to a conventional pattern. My brain doesn't work that way.

2. What's your least favorite thing in the world?

Oh, man, I have categories. For food, it's anything with a slimy texture. Cooked onions, liver, jello.....shudder. Can't do it.

For daily living, it would be the feeling that I can't do anything right. Which, unfortunately, I get quite a bit. I've run across it personally, and at work, and sometimes in my jewelry business.

3. What's the first poem you ever wrote?

I was in second or third grade, and an excessively morbid child. It was called "Ocean's Victims", featured relentless rhyme and portrayed someone slithering into Davy Jones' locker. What the hell was my mother letting me read, anyway?

Keep in mind, though, I went to a school system where the local history classes featured stories about Boone Island (local shipwreck/cannibalism) as part of the curriculum.

4. Would you ever consider moving out of New England?

At various points in time, it has been a distinct possibility. The thing about New England roots is that they don't preclude growing wings, as well.

At various periods in time I have considered moving to the left coast, to the Carolinas, and to Washington DC. And, god help me, Jersey. These were job and friend-related thoughts; I still don't rule them out.

Because I'm a practical workhorse, if I moved, it would likely be for a possibility of a good job. The circumstances would probly involve dissolution of my current relationships.

The thing that ties me to New England (aside from family and relationships) in a big way is my jewelry business. Six years ago, I did not have the contact network that I have now, for insurance, shows, friends, etc. New England is also very compressed--there are a lot of shows within three hours driving distance that I can feasibly do. Rebuilding that network elsewhere would be a huge pain in the ass, and maybe not possible in more spread-out areas.

5. What's the most outrageous thing you've ever done?

In some ways, this is the toughest question. I think of myself as relatively conservative, really, with most of my decisions being fallout of necessity and circumstance. I'd have to regard it from an outsider's view, I guess. Highlights would probably include:

--working renfaires in a corset
--stripping and changing with mixed-gender groups of up to forty people
--running away to a party in NYC with a bunch of freaks from the internet whom I hadn't met in person, and wearing a PVC ballgown to the party
--getting caught by a cop whilst fucking in a car in a public park after dark...and I was 27 at the time.
--Telling fairy stories to audiences of over 200 people at a time.
